*Respect social customs. Suspend your disbelief - don't argue with local people about superstitions or practices that seem illogical or unscientific to you. *Don't throw stones over the edge of a cliff just for the thrill of seeing it hurtling down - you could injure someone badly or start a landside. If you inadvertently do dislodge a rock or stone while climbing a steep surface yell "rock below" or "pathar" to warn those below you. *Don't flash your torch in someone's face so you can see who it is. Ask first and keep your torch focussed on the ground. *Many places have a special bin in the toilet meant for used toilet paper. Use the bin if it exists - don't be responsible for clogging someone's fragile drainage system. *Leave things the way you find them. Leave open gates open, closed gates closed. Don't walk through someone's fields even if it looks like there is nothing growing there. Most fields have an assigned path for walking that you should use. *Don't carve hearts or lovers initials into the trunks of trees - it's cruel and destructive. *Watch out for bees. They are often sensitive to strong smells (even cutting onions or peeling oranges). Don't ever light a fire or smoke a cigarette under a hive - bees can react with extreme viciousness. |
